The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to preserve the Britain's grassroots music venues.

Fender was awarded the cheque on October 16 as his third album his work was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages had in his initial steps.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

He also took part, raising over £100k on his live tour to help thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds helped spaces that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties caused by floods, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations received funding support in improving amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The notion that money from performances in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.

Fender is far from the only musician to contribute his award funds to worthy causes.

Back when the band received the trophy in 1996 for their album their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would donate their cash to the organization War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer she split her prize between a few charities, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I gave a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the community center that supported their band, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year M People contributed their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," stated artist Small. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success affected the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had saved two local spots in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and The Croft in that location were purchased under the community ownership program, which is supported by Arts Council England and supporters who buy "stakes" in the properties.
